Oklahoma Sooners

2023 Women’s College World Series Prediction 2.0

It’s conference championship week, which means that we are merely days away from knowing what the NCAA Softball Tournament bracket looks like.

Let’s take a look at who will make the Women’s College World Series with our latest projections. These projections will be based on our latest Bracketology, and make sure you hop in our forum to discuss who you think will make it to Oklahoma City.

PROJECTED WOMEN’S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES FIELD: 5/9/2023

1. Oklahoma (49-1) – The Sooners are the runaway favorite to take home a third straight national championship. OU leads the country in batting average (.368), ERA (0.87), fielding percentage (.988), scoring (8.16), on-base percentage (.462), home runs per game (1.82), slugging percentage (.664), shutouts (29), and winning percentage (.979).

2. UCLA (50-4) While not on the same level as Oklahoma, the Bruins have been quite dominant again in 2023. There’s not much doubt that Kelly Inouye-Perez will get UCLA back to Oklahoma City for an eighth-straight year. During their current 23-game winning streak, the Bruins have swept Stanford, Utah, and both Arizona and Arizona State.

3. Florida State (47-8) While they aren’t getting the attention of the two teams above, if there’s a dark horse to win the 2023 WCWS Championship, it’s Florida State. The Seminoles have the offense to stand toe-to-toe with a team like Oklahoma, and their pitching staff is good enough to keep just about any lineup in check.

4. Central Arkansas (39-9) UCA is 2-0 against Arkansas this season, and the get the Razorbacks in Fayetteville in our projections. The Bears will then have to travel to Stanford, but I believe the Cardinal is a bit overrated this season. You want a Cinderella story to follow in this tournament? Hitch your wagon to the girls out of Conway, Arkansas.

5. Tennessee (41-8) I feel really good about the SEC champions making it to Oklahoma City, and with one of the best rosters in softball this season, they could make a deep run once they’re there. The Vols are talented in the circle and have a high-flying offense that can do damage this postseason. A Super Regional against Clemson would be a lot of fun, too.

6. Texas (40-12-1) – Despite the Longhorns getting embarrassed by Baylor this weekend, I think they can go into Baton Rouge and walk out with a win. When Texas is playing it’s best softball, which it has done for stretches in 2023, it is certainly a WCWS-caliber squad. Taking down two SEC foes to get to OKC is tough, but they can do it.

7. Washington (37-11) It’s May and the Huskies are rounding into shape as one of the top teams in softball. Are you surprised? UW is coming off a big series win over Stanford and has become a team to fear coming out of the Pac-12. Washington vs. UCLA in the first round of the WCWS? Sign me up.

8. Duke (43-9) The Blue Devils would likely need to take down Liberty and Northwestern to get to Oklahoma City, and they are more than capable of doing that. Duke has morphed into a powerhouse over the last two seasons, and this squad is better than the one we saw last season. What better way to end the year than to make Oklahoma City for the first time in program history?
