Five-Star Forward Mackenzie Mgbako to Pick Between Kansas, Indiana

The Kansas Jayhawks are having one of the best offseasons in program history after bringing in the top player in the transfer portal Hunter Dickinson, one of the best shooters in the nation in Nicolas Timberlake, and now find themselves with a 50/50 chance to land Mackenzie Mgbako.

Mgbako is listed as a five-star prospect by 247Sports index and currently sits as the 10th-ranked player in the nation. Mgbako announced that he has narrowed his list down to two potential suitors, Kansas and Indiana.

Mgbako will made his decision on Friday between the two schools.

Mgbako ranks as the 2nd-best forward in the nation behind the uncommitted Ron Holland and is the third-best player in the state of New Jersey behind Kentucky commits, DJ Wagner and Aaron Bradshaw.

Director of scouting, Adam Finkelstein spoke on Mgbako saying, “His shot-making from behind the arc is his best asset. He can also make the types of shots that translate to the next level – pick-and-pop threes, slipping out of ball screens to make shots on the move, or creating space with a series of side-step or step-back shots. The mid-post has long been a staple of his individual offense, but now he’s getting some easy points by moving without the ball more freely. Physically, Mgbako appears to be in the best shape of his career to date and was also productive enough on the glass to hold his own at the four. His swing skills are his defensive versatility and shot-creation abilities, both of which are rooted in his mobility, footspeed, and ability to play low to the ground when necessary. If those two areas develop, both his versatility and overall projection will go to new levels.”

While there is no timetable for Mgbako’s announcement yet, both Kansas and Indiana fans should be over the moon excited with the news of the potential commitment.
