Urban Meyer: Texas Has “The Best Roster in College Football”

Like him or hate him, Urban Meyer knows college football. His three national championships and 187-32 overall record has a head coach at the collegiate level are proof of that.

The former Ohio State coach has found life after the sidelines as a college football analyst, and he recently said something during an interview that has people buzzing.

During a talk with Tim May on the On3 YouTube channel, Meyer sent the Texas hype for 2023 through the roof with his comments about the Longhorns.

When discussing elite teams like Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State, Meyer made sure to insert the Longhorns into that echelon for 2023.

“I think Texas, you didn’t mention them, but don’t sleep on Texas this year,” Meyer said. “I was talking to (Ohio State associate AD) Mark Pantoni and I was talking to the recruiting director at Ohio State. Man for man, roster against roster, it’s hard to say Texas doesn’t have the best roster in college football.

“Now, they gotta play. It’s been a while since Texas has been good, or elite, but their quarterback (Quinn Ewers), I watched him live against Alabama before he got hurt and they could’ve won that game. I think Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas are in pretty good shape in the quarterback room.”

Last year, Texas ranked sixth nationally in 247Sports College Football Team Talent Composite, and the roster has improved this offseason through the 2023 recruiting class and a couple of key additions in the transfer portal.

Could this be the year that Texas’ talent finally stacks up on the field? There are plenty of folks out there who think so, but I’ll need to see it to believe it.
