Five-Star F Mackenzie Mgbako Commits to Indiana Over Kansas

The Indiana Hoosiers added another player to their squad for the 2023 season, with five-star forward Mackenzie Mgbako electing to join the Hoosiers instead of the Jayhawks.

Mgbako is listed as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports index and currently sits as the 10th-ranked player in the nation. Mgbako announced that he had narrowed his list down to two potential suitors, Kansas and Indiana, ultimately siding with Mike Woodson and Indiana.

Heading into commitment day, the general consensus was the Mgbako would be joining the Jayhawks. Mgbako decided to head to Indiana instead and join the Big 10 Conference.

Mgbako’s decision is a big miss for the Jayhawks as freshman center Ernest Udeh Jr. jumped in the transfer portal the day before Mgbako’s choice.

The Jayhawks will be more than fine and should still be favored to win a Big 12 title and go far into March. With three remaining roster spots available, Bill Self still has time to find more key players to elevate the bunch even further. Kansas finished last season with a record of 28-8 and won the Big 12 regular season title. The Jayhawks then secured a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but with Bill Self missing the Big Dance due to health issues, KU was knocked out in the second round by Arkansas.
