Baylor Snubbed as National Seed, Headed to Utah Regional

The Baylor Bears did not receive a national seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament but instead were placed in the Salt Lake City Regional, which is being hosted by the Pac-12 Champions, Utah.

The Utes upset UCLA to win the Pac-12 tournament and it elevated them to the No. 15 overall seed and a chance to host a regional.

In addition to hosting Baylor, Utah will also welcome Ole Miss and Southern Illinois to Salt Lake City. The Bears look like the Utes’ biggest competition in the region and should come into it with a major chip on their shoulder.

During the Selection Show, it was mentioned several times that “Top 10 wins” were a major part of what the committee used to determine national seeds.

If that was the case, then Baylor should feel absolutely slighted. The Bears have six top-five wins, which is more than (16) Clemson, (15) Utah, and (14) Georgia combined. If the committee truly valued that, they’d have given the Bears more of a serious look to host.

Baylor will kick off its tournament against Ole Miss on Friday, at 12:00 p.m. CT.

The winner of the Salt Lake City regional will take on the winner of the Los Angeles regional, which is hosted by UCLA. The Bruins are the No. 2 overall seed in the tournament and are hosting San Diego State, Liberty, and Grand Canyon.
