Oklahoma State Earns No. 6 Overall Seed in NCAA Softball Tournament
Despite the Cowgirls’ recent struggles, the NCAA Softball Tournament selection committee rewarded Oklahoma State for their entire body of work in 2023, giving them the No. 6 overall seed in this year’s tournament.
OSU has lost 11 of its last 13 games, including losses to Iowa State, North Texas, and Kansas in that stretch. However, the Cowgirls played like one of the best teams in the country for the vast majority of the season, and that’s why they’ll get to stay in Stillwater all the way through the Super Regionals.
However, it’s not all good news for the Pokes as they will have to play host to Wichita State in the opening round. The Shockers are 2-0 against Oklahoma State this season, providing a considerable challenge to Kenny Gajewski’s squad before the first weekend even finished.
In addition to Wichita State, Oklahoma State will host Nebraska and UMBC, playing the Retrievers to open up tournament play.
If OSU can recapture their midseason form, there isn’t any reason why they can’t move on to the next round of the tournament. If they do win the Stillwater Regional, the Cowgirls will play the winner of the Fayetteville Regional. There, No. 11 Arkansas is playing host to Harvard, Oregon, and Notre Dame.
