Oklahoma State Beats Texas Tech To Force Big 12 Baseball Elimination Game

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Oklahoma State Cowboys forced a second game with Texas Tech after defeating the Red Raiders, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at Globe Life Field.
The Cowboys (40-17) needed the victory in order to force an elimination game with the Red Raiders (39-20) later on Saturday. Had Texas Tech won, the Red Raiders would have played TCU in the Big 12 Tournament championship game on Sunday at 5 p.m. central.
The second matchup between the Cowboys and the Red Raiders was set to start at 4 p.m. central on Saturday.
The Cowboys put an offensive barrage on the Red Raiders early in the game, as they scored two runs in the second inning, four in the third inning and two more in the fourth inning to get a comfortable 8-0 lead.
Nolan Schubart and Tyler Wulfert had the big games for OSU at the plate. Wulfert went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run, including a double. Schubart went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
OSU chased TTU starter Zane Petty from the game less than three innings in, as he allowed six hits, six runs (five earned) and two walks in 2 1/3 innings. He also struck out four but saw his season record drop to 3-1.
The Red Raiders finally broke through for a run in the top of the fifth as Hudson White (1-for-3) hit a solo home run.
Texas Tech had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the eighth but OSU reliever Bayden Root got Texas Tech’s Ty Coleman to ground into a double play to end the inning.
Cowboys starting pitcher Brennan Phillips gave OSU six strong innings in just his sixth start of the season. He gave up four hits, a run and a walk while striking out seven as he claimed his second win of the year (2-1). Going into the game he had the staff’s highest ERA at 12.15 and had thrown just 20 innings.
