On3 Names Quinn Ewers as Big 12’s Top Heisman Contender

The Big 12 Conference had some of the best young quarterbacks in the country last season with TCU’s Max Duggan making it to the final Heisman cutdown list alongside Heisman winner Caleb Williams, Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, and Georgia’s Stetson Bennett.
With a new season of college football just around the corner, On3Sports released their top 5 list of players with a shot at the Heisman Trophy in the upcoming season with Texas QB Quinn Ewers headlining the list.
The four quarterbacks joining Ewers on the list are Oklahoma‘s Dillion Gabriel, Kansas State‘s Will Howard, Texas Tech‘s Tyler Shough, and TCU‘s Chandler Morris.
Despite finishing 6-7 last season, Dillion Gabriel has been one of the most talked about players in the country this offseason as the Sooners enter year two of the Brent Venables era. If Oklahoma looks to make a push for a Big 12 title in their final season in the conference, Gabriel will be expected to lead his team to the promised land.
Kansas State quarterback Will Howard checks in at third place on the list as the Wildcats finished with a 5-1 record in games that Howard started last season en route to a Big 12 title. The senior quarterback took over for Adrian Martinez last season after an injury sidelined the Nebraska transfer, and with Howard showing tremendous improvement, the Pennsylvania native could make a run for the Heisman.
Texas Tech’s Tyler Shough makes an appearance in the fourth spot after an up-and-down season with the Red Raiders. Tech has completely rebuilt their roster this offseason under head coach Joey McGuire with many believing that the Red Raiders are a dark horse candidate to take home the Big 12 title. If Shough can stay healthy and lead his squad to the championship game, a date with the Heisman Trophy is certainly possible.
The final name on the list comes in as a bit of a surprise selection in TCU quarterback Chandler Morris. While it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Morris to have a special season, he saw just one game on the field last year with Max Duggan having a career year and leading the Horned Frogs to the CFB Playoff. Morris has a chance to continue the trend of good things happening in Ft. Worth under head coach Sonny Dykes, but with the limited amount of tape on Morris, I may have elected for Kansas’ Jalon Daniels here instead.
