While West Virginia‘s season came to an end last weekend in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, the co-champs of the Big 12 Conference quickly added a big piece to their lineup with the addition of Houston Christian’s Reed Chumley.

Chumley joins the Mountaineers after two impressive seasons at Houston Christian University leading the Southland Conference in batting average at .392, as well as slugging percentage, and OPS.

The Texas native now joins Randy Mazey’s squad and pairs up with the Big 12 Player of the Year, JJ Wetherholt, who led the Big 12 Conference in batting average at .449, as well as led the league in slugging percentage and OPS.

The duo of Wetherholt and Chumley is one that should help the Mountaineers follow up their 2023 campaign (40-20, 15-9 CONF) that earned a split share of the Big 12 title alongside the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns.

While the Mountaineers did earn a piece of the title in 2023, WVU head coach Randy Mazey is doing everything he can this offseason to ensure that the Mountaineers finish their 2024 season on top of the mountain. Chumley becomes the Mountaineers’ first addition in the transfer portal this season, and if I had to take a guess, I would bet that the Big 12 champs aren’t going to be done anytime soon.
