There’s a new Knight headed to Orlando this weekend with the commitment of New Mexico State forward, Marchelus Avery who announced his commitment to UCF on Saturday in the transfer portal.
The Virginia native joins Johnny Dawkins’ squad as a junior after a productive season at New Mexico State where he averaged 8.2 PPG, and 4.5 RPG on 47.4% shooting from the field.
Coming out of high school, Avery was listed as a three-star prospect in the class of 2020 by the 247Sports index, as well as the nation’s 359th-ranked recruit. He also checked in as the 72-ranked small forward in the country, and the 17th-ranked player in the state of Virginia.
Avery’s biggest game of the season came against NNM back on December 18th when he recorded 26 points and eight rebounds on 78.6% shooting in the Aggies’ 95-53 win.
Avery joins the Knights in their first season of Big 12 basketball after spending the previous two years in the Western Athletic Conference with New Mexico State. While the Knights’ season is still five months away, the addition of Marchelus Avery is a great sign of life for Johnny Dawkins and the rest of UCF’s squad, as they prepare to play in the best conference in all of college basketball this November.
