Iowa State Lands Commitment from Three-Star OT A.J. Burton

NCAA Football: Iowa at Iowa State

For the third consecutive day, Iowa State has landed a commitment for the 2024 recruiting cycle, with three-star offensive tackle A.J. Burton pledging to the Cyclones on Tuesday.

The 6-5, 275-pound talent out of Englewood, Colorado was in Ames for a visit over the weekend and clearly saw enough to convince him that Iowa State was the right place to call home for the foreseeable future.

“They knew how I was feeling coming into this weekend,” Burton told CycloneFanatic. “There was kind of some discussion on what the plan was and what we’re going to do. Right now, that’s where I’m at.”

Burton held offers from Colorado, Washington State, Colorado State, Indiana, and Charlotte as well, but will ultimately play his college football in the Big 12.

“I’ve just felt like they’ve been recruiting me the hardest – looking at me and my ability on the field,” Burton said. “Where as, some schools, I just feel like they get too caught up on social media and see these kids going to all of these camps – coach Clanton and coach Campbell see my abilities on the field, and just make me feel loved.”

Burton is listed as the No. 98 OT in the country and the No. 6 overall player from the state of Colorado. He joins three-star RB Dylan Lee and three-star ATH Deyon Batiste as the trio of commitments for the Cyclones over the last three days.

With Burton’s commitment, Iowa State climbs to the No. 38 overall recruiting class in the country, ranking them fourth in the Big 12. While there is still a lot of time left in the cycle, this is a great start for Matt Campbell and Co.
