Zach Clemence Returning to Kansas in Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: Final Four-National Championship-Kansas vs North Carolina

While Kansas forward Zach Clemence announced his decision to commit to the UCSB Gauchos earlier this offseason, he is officially back to Lawrence after deciding not to enroll at UC Santa Barbara.

Kansas head basketball coach Bill Self held an official press conference on Tuesday morning where he provided an update on Clemence announcing his return to Kansas, as well as his intention to red shirt in the upcoming season.

When asked about Clemence Self said, “Zach got back last night, on campus this morning. If you guys are curious at all, I had a conversation last week with Zach, he contacted me and we were discussing all things going on with him, future transferring, and all the same stuff. He asked me ‘Would there be a possibility that he could return’ and we discussed what we both thought would be best for his future, basketball-wise.”

He continued by saying, “I feel really good about our roster. Zach’s not going to come in and impact the guys that we’ve recruited in a way that we’ve told them how we plan to utilize them. Zach’s thinking is that it would be in his best interest, in a perfect world, to redshirt and help us every day in practice, and allow himself to grow and get better, and just see how that takes him to a place where he can be a major contributor at this level at some point in time.”

While Clemence plans to redshirt in the 2023-24 season, he showed some potential in the limited minutes of action during the Jayhawks 2022-23 season including a season-high 10 points and three rebounds against Oklahoma on January 10th. He now returns for Bill Self and claims the 11th scholarship spot for the Jayhawks in Lawrence.
