Texas’ Sir’Jabari Rice Signs Two-Way Deal with San Antonio Spurs
Texas guard Sir’Jabari Rice has officially signed a two-way NBA contract with the San Antonio Spurs following the conclusion of the 2023 NBA Draft on Thursday night.
While Rice was not one of the seven Big 12 Conference members to hear their names called on draft night, reports of his signing broke a few hours after the last pick of the second round, according to a report from ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Rice joins a cast of multiple Longhorns in the NBA, Texas being one of the most well-represented collegiate programs in the association with over 12 members including Suns forward Kevin Durant, Pacers center Myles Turner, Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen, and many more.
The 6-foot-4 guard helped Texas reach the Elite Eight round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament under first-year head coach Rodney Terry who took over for the Longhorns following Chris Beard’s departure at the start of the season. Rice had a productive year coming off the bench for the Longhorns, earning Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year honors as well as being named to the Third-Team All-Big 12 team.
He was a key player in Texas’ rotation last season averaging 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game on 46.4% shooting from the field.
Rice finished off his college career with 1,600 career points (10.7 PPG.) on 43.6 percent shooting (514-of-1180), including 34.4 percent (211-of-613) from 3-point range, with 612 rebounds (4.1 RPG.), 298 assists (2.0 APG.), 42 blocks (0.3 BPG.) and 108 steals (0.7 SPG.) over 149 career games played (24.6) mpg.
