West Virginia Guard Joe Toussaint Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament First Round-West Virginia vs Maryland

The West Virginia Mountaineers roster purge officially has its third member in the transfer portal as West Virginia guard Joe Toussaint announced his decision to enter the portal on Friday, just minutes after his backcourt teammate, Kerr Kriisa announced his decision to transfer.

Toussaint was one of the returning members of the Mountaineers squad from the 2022-2023 season, but after both senior forward Tre Mitchell and junior guard Kerr Kriisa announced their decision to leave Morgantown, Toussaint elected to follow in search of greener pastures.

In the midst of a search for a new head coach following the resignation of longtime HC Bob Huggins, West Virginia fans, alumni, boosters, and more have tried to do everything in their power to ensure some of the incoming members of the basketball team stay in Morgantown, but as the coaching search continues on, the inevitable departures have started.

Toussaint averaged 9.4 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game last season at West Virginia while shooting 37.4% from the field. The veteran guard hits the portal after head coach Bob Huggins announced his resignation following his arrest in Pittsburg for driving under the influence of alcohol last week. Toussaint enters the portal with immediate eligibility as he earned his degree from West Virginia in May.

With three members of the 2023-2024 class electing to jump ship and enter the transfer portal, Mountaineer fans everywhere continue to hold their breath as today is shaping up to be a long one for them.
