West Virginia F Mohamed Wague Enters Transfer Portal

NCAA Basketball: Morehead State at West Virginia

The fallout after Bob Huggins’ exit from the West Virginia basketball program continued on Monday as forward Mohamed Wague announced that he will enter the transfer portal.

In his lone season at West Virginia, Wague averaged 4.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.5 blocks, and 0.3 assists over 28 games, and shot 74.2% from the field.

While he showed some promise as a scorer under the basket, Wague’s biggest impact for the Mountaineers was his ability to guard the rim, and that will be missed.

In his announcement post, Wague says that returning to Wast Virginia is “100% something [he] will consider,” but feels that seeing what else is out there for him is in his best interest.

Wague was sidelined indefinitely in late February with a foot injury and missed the remainder of his sophomore season after appearing in all 28 games to that point in the season.

As an experienced returning player, Wague was expected to have a major impact on the court for newly elevated head coach Josh Eilert, but it appears that he will instead try and make his mark elsewhere.

Wague joins starting big man Tre Mitchell and guard Joe Toussaint as the trio of WVU players in the transfer portal, while Kerr Kriisa entered but then withdrew his name with the intent to stay and play for Eilert in 2023-24.
