Three-Star DL Eddy Smith Commits to Texas Tech

NCAA Football: Montana State at Texas Tech

The Texas Tech Red Raiders just added a new prospect to the incoming freshmen class of 2024 with the commitment of three-star defensive lineman, Eddy Smith.

The big defensive lineman stands at 6-foot-6, 250-pounds, and received offers from 22 different schools and choose Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders over the likes of Oklahoma State, Baylor, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, and more.

Smith is listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and currently ranks as the nation’s 477th-overall recruit in the class of 2024. He also checks in as the 29th-ranked pass rusher in the country and the 81st-best player in the state of Texas.

Eddy Smith joins a Tech D-line group that has been incredibly disruptive over the past few seasons, with edge rusher Tyree Wilson even being selected with the seventh overall pick by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2023 NFL Draft. Smith has an opportunity to step into a Texas Tech program that many are viewing as a dark-horse candidate to win the Big 12, as well as one of the up-and-coming teams in the new Big 12 Conference, post-Texas and Oklahoma.

Smith will have an opportunity to watch his new team play on September 2nd when Joey McGuire and Texas Tech take the field for the first game of the season against Wyoming at 6:30 PM CST.
