Miami Flips Three-Star West Virginia CB Commit Romanas Frederique

NCAA Football: Oklahoma State at West Virginia

While Neal Brown and the Mountaineers have had a good offseason so far with additions in both the transfer portal and on the high school recruiting front, West Virginia took a step back on Saturday with three-star wide receiver, Romanas Frederique, flipping his commitment to Miami.

Frederique elected to return to his home state of Florida and join the Hurricanes after receiving offers from 13 different schools including West Virginia, Houston, UCF, and more.

Frederique is listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and also ranks just outside of the nation’s top 1,000 prospects (1,005th). He checks in as the 82nd-ranked cornerback in the class of 2024 and the 134th-ranked prospect in the state of Florida.

While Frederique announced his commitment to West Virginia on June 17th, he experienced a lot of changes in a two-week span. Frederique took an official visit to Miami just one week later on June 23rd, and after weighing his options, he elected to decommit from West Virginia, and head to Gainesville with today’s announcement. The Florida native was aggressively pursued by multiple schools in his home state as Frederique fielded offers from Miami, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Jacksonville State, and UCF.

While Romanas Frederique may not be joining the Big 12 Conference in 2024, the West Virginia Mountaineers have added multiple receivers in back-to-back classes that should help ease the loss.
