Jerry Palm’s First 2024 Bracketology Lists Kansas as No. 1 Overall Seed

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Salt Lake City Practice

While we are just four months removed from the conclusion of the 2023 NCAA basketball Tournament, CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm decided that it’s never too early to get a look ahead at the upcoming season.

With the transfer portal seemingly slowing down at this point in the summer, Palm looked ahead at the 2024 NCAA Tournament and gave his prediction for the country’s No. 1 overall seed, which he believes is the Kansas Jayhawks.

Palm explained his thoughts by saying, “One team that has taken full advantage of the portal is preseason overall No. 1 seed Kansas. The Jayhawks added Hunter Dickinson from Michigan and Towson 3-point machine Nick Timberlake to the roster. They also return KJ Adams, Dajuan Harris, and Kevin McCullar and add a five-star recruit in Elmarko Jackson. Bill Self’s squad looks poised to make a run at another title.”

While Kansas’ roster is primed and ready to make a run next season, the prime focus for the Jayhawks will be keeping Bill Self healthy and on the sidelines. Self missed the final game of the Big 12 Tournament for the Jayhawks last season and the entire March Madness run, and while Kansas’ staff has the capability to make do without Self, keeping one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time on the sideline is a must-have.

While the Jayhawks have built an astounding amount of hype for the upcoming season, it all comes down to execution. Luckily, having a guy with two national titles under his belt in Bill Self should give fans all of the confidence in the world to make that happen.
