The Texas Tech Red Raiders took another step forward on Saturday with the commitment of 2024 three-star safety Malik Esquerra.
Esquerra joins the Red Raiders after receiving offers from seven teams including Nebraska, Oklahoma State, TCU, and more. The commitment of Esquerra helps head coach Joey McGuire continue his hot streak of landing commitments in the Red Raiders’ class of 2024 with ranks first in the Big 12 Conference.
Esquerra is listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and currently ranks as the 51st-overall safety in the class of 2024. He also checks in as the 81st-ranked player in the state of Texas and becomes the Red Raiders’ 18th commit in the class of 2024.
He joins a class of four four-star prospects and 12 three-stars including players like Cheta Ofili, Ellis Davis, Peyton Morgan, Will Hammond, Edward Smith, J’Koby Williams, and Tyson Turner who all rank in the top 500 prospects in the class of 2024.
Head coach Joey McGuire is entering year two at the helm for Texas Tech and in his short time in Lubbock, he has turned the team completely around since the departure of Kliff Kingsbury and company. McGuire has his squad focused on bringing home its first Big 12 title, and they get their opportunity to start their run on September 2nd when they take on Wyoming.
