Oklahoma-Texas Game Officially Renamed ‘Red River Rivalry’ Ahead of 2023
The Red River Rivalry is officially back with the rivalry returning to its former name for the matchup between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners.
The rivalry has taken on many different names over the past few years with the most recent edition being labeled as the Red River Shootout. Now with help from AllState insurance, the pair will face off in the “AllState Red River Rivalry.”
While the name change is set for at least the 2023 season both teams have a move to the SEC set for 2024. The SEC currently has room for one rivalry week in each team’s schedule so more than likely the rivalry will continue under this name for the foreseeable future but with Texas A&M making a push to take on both the Sooners and Longhorns in the future the rivalry may have to happen in waves.
While the Red River Rivalry will continue its tradition in a new conference in 2024, the matchup has been one-sided over the last decade with the Sooners boasting a 7-3 record against the Longhorns through the 2013-2023 seasons. Texas however does own the advantage in the series with 63 wins, 50 losses, and five ties all time against Oklahoma.
The pair clash in the last Red River Rivalry as members of the Big 12 Conference on October 7th when Texas and Oklahoma take the field in a neutral site game.
