The Baylor Bears added a new name to their defensive line for the upcoming season with Maine transfer defensive end Justin Sambu.

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound product entered the transfer portal back on June 14th picking up offers from Missouri, Mississippi State, Central Michigan, Georgia State, Buffalo, James Madison, and Utah State before committing to join Dave Aranda at Baylor.

Sambu joins the Bears with one year of college eligibility left after spending his first three seasons at Maine. In his time with the Black Bears, Sambu totaled 31 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

He becomes the third player on the defensive line to transfer to Baylor this summer with Oregon transfer Treven Ma’ae and Hutchinson Community College transfer, Jerrel Boykins both headed to Waco.

Sambu heads to Waco after a disappointing season under Dave Aranda where the Bears finished sixth in the Big 12 with an overall record of 6-7 and a conference record of 4-5 just one year removed from hoisting the Big 12 trophy in 2021.

Baylor kicks their season off on September 2nd against Texas State with hopes of competing for a Big 12 title in a bounce-back in Aranda’s fourth year at the helm.
