Former Kansas Signee Marcus Adams Jr. Commits to Gonzaga
Former Kansas Jayhawks commit Marcus Adams Jr. has a new home at Gonzaga after he requested release from his letter of intent at Kansas in order to re-open his recruitment.
Adams announced on Twitter that he would be decommitting from the Jayhawks and committing to Gonzaga, becoming the second Jayhawk freshman to leave the program following in the footsteps of four-star guard Chris Johnson who elected to do the same earlier this offseason.
Adams is listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and currently ranks as the nation’s 48th-overall prospect. He also checks in as the eighth small forward in the class of 2024 and the 11th-ranked player in the state of California.
The loss of Adams is a big one for the Jayhawks as two of the incoming freshman in the class of 2023 have requested release from their NLI and headed elsewhere. Adams released a statement earlier in July that reads, “I would like to request a release from my National Letter of Intent in order to find out where I truly belong. It was a hard decision. I decided it would be best for me mentally and for my family. I will re-open my recruitment as well. Thank you and please respect my decision.”
The 6-foot-8 prospect from California enrolled at Kansas in June and just one month after making it to Lawrence, Adams decided to hit the portal and commit to Gonzaga. With both Adams and Johnson out the door headed to Gonzaga and Texas respectively, the Jayhawks freshman class is down to two remaining players, five-star guard Elmarko Jackson and four-star guard Jamari McDowell.
