Williams Nwaneri, No. 1 Player in 2024, to Announce Decision on August 14

The No. 1 overall player in the Class of 2024 is set to announce his decision on Monday, August 14, and a Big 12 team is right in the thick of the race.
Listed at 6-6, 265 pounds, Williams Nwaneri is a prototypical pass rusher that possesses elite length and agility at his size, making him a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.
Nwaneri is set to play his senior year at Lee’s Summit North High School, in Lee’s Summit (a suburb of Kansas City), Missouri, and is widely regarded as the top defensive lineman in the 2024 class, regardless of publication.
Nwaneri announced on Twitter Thursday morning that he would be making his decision at 3:00 p.m. CT on Monday.
Nwaneri’s list of finalists includes Tennessee, Oregon, Georgia, Missouri, and Oklahoma, with the Tigers and Sooners being perceived as the top two favorites to land the uber-talented defender.
Oklahoma has been the favorite in this recruitment for a long time, with Tennessee and Georgia making legitimate runs at one point or another. As of late though, it has been Missouri who has pushed the Sooners for the five-star defensive lineman.
With Brent Venables and Oklahoma transitioning into the SEC in 2024, the defensive line is a position of need in Norman, and getting the nation’s top prospect would certainly help the Sooners get up to speed.
As of Thursday, Oklahoma still looks to be the leader in the clubhouse, but Missouri has given many folks pause on the recruitment. Either way, it’s likely this recruitment isn’t over until pen meets paper this winter.
