Look: Houston Unveils Oilers-Themed Uniforms for Season Opener

While the Texans have been around since the turn of the century, Houston was originally home to the Oilers. From 1960 to 1997, the Oilers were the NFL franchise that H-Town rallied around. The Columbia blue and red uniforms were a unique look and one that worked well with the oil rig logo.

In ’97, the Oilers moved to Tennessee and became the Titans, before the Texans took over as Houston’s NFL team in 1999. However, there is still a contingent of fans who relish the days of Earl Campbell, Mike Rozier, and Warren Moon.

Those fans will LOVE what the Houston Cougars are suiting up in for their 2023 season opener against UTSA on Saturday.

Take a look at these Oilers-themed uniforms, which immediately vault near the top of the alternates list in all of college football.

Man, those are clean.

The classic shoulder stripes, Big 12 logo, white helmet, red face mask, and Columbia blue top bring these alternates together so perfectly.

Houston and UTSA (-2.0) are set for a 6:00 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday, September 2, and can be watched on Fox Sports 1.
