Kansas QB Jalon Daniels Expected to Play vs. Illinois: Report

According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Kansas Jayhawks appear to have their best player back on Friday as Jalon Daniels is expected to play against Illinois after missing the opener with back tightness.

Thamel also reports that Daniels “took a significant amount of snaps in practice for Kansas this week” and that his situation has improved heading into Week 2.

Last week against Missouri State, Jason Bean made the start and was efficient, completing 22 of 28 attempts for 276 yards and two scores, while adding 41 yards on the ground with five carries.

With Daniels’ injury history, Bean is an answered prayer for the Jayhawks, and his improved efficiency is certainly something that will come in handy at some point this season.

However, with Daniels back in the lineup against Illinois the Jayhawks’ offense should be full-go, which is obviously a good thing.

Illinois is coming off a 2022 season in which it was one of the best defenses in the country but struggled mightily against Toledo, needing a last-minute field goal to win 30-28 in their opener.

In what should be an electric early-season atmosphere at the Booth, Kansas is listed as a 3.0-point favorite in this game, meaning oddsmakers feel that this game is a true toss-up.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT, with the game being televised on ESPN2.
