WVU DB Beanie Bishop on Pitt QB: ‘He Wasn’t Too Good at His Job’

NCAA Football: Kansas State at West Virginia

While it’s no secret that the Backyard Brawl is a brutal game between historic rivals, the matchup between the Mountaineers and the Panthers seems to provide legendary quotes on a yearly basis.

West Virginia defensive back Beanie Bishop took the cake this week with some viral post-game comments discussing Pittsburgh quarterback Phil Jurkovec who Bishop criticized by saying, “We knew coming into the game, he wasn’t too good at his job.”

While Bishop’s comments riled up Pitt fans following Saturday’s 17-6 loss, he wasn’t exactly wrong about Pitt’s quarterback.

Phil Jurkovec finished off his performance on Saturday night by going 8-20 for 81 passing yards and three interceptions against the Mountaineers defense. Bishop was one of three Mountaineers to record an interception against Jurkovec joining junior safety Aubrey Burks and senior cornerback Malachi Ruffin with turnovers.

West Virginia’s stellar defense combined with sophomore running back CJ Donaldson to take care of business against their long-time rival. Neal Brown and the Mountaineers now pivot to kick off Big 12 play against Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders on September 23rd in what should be a learning point for both squads going forward.
