Texas Tech QB Tyler Shough Carted Off vs. West Virginia

Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough was carted off the field against West Virginia after sustaining what looks to be a lower-body injury in the first half.
Shough was carted off the field during the game’s third drive with his left leg stabilized. Sophomore quarterback Behren Morton entered the game down 7-3 against the Mountaineers in relief of Shough.
While nothing is set in stone for Shough the Red Raiders, anytime a player leaves the field on the cart, there is almost always immediate grounds for concern. Shough stepped in for the Red Raiders after starting off the season with close losses against Wyoming and Texas Tech, before bouncing back against Tarleton State.
Shough’s injury on Saturday marks his third consecutive injury early in the season, as Shough suffered a collarbone injury two years ago in the Big 12 opener and didn’t play again and then suffered another collarbone injury in the season opener last year, before returning later in the season.
The Red Raiders will now pivot to Behren Morton for the foreseeable future who saw action in the Red Raiders Week 3 win going 8-13 for 72 yards and two scores through the air.
Texas Tech’s start to the 2023 season has been drastically different than most fans expected, but with a solid starter stepping in to fill the loss of Shough, Joey McGuire’s squad should still have a chance to contend for a Big 12 title regardless of how much harder things may have just gotten.
