2024 Four-Star F Chase McCarty Commits to Houston

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Rutgers at Houston

Kelvin Sampson and the Houston Cougars added a new name in the class of 2024 with the commitment of four-star forward Chase McCarty.

McCarty chose the Cougars over 13 different teams including the likes of the Kansas Jayhawks, Miami Hurricanes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Missouri Tigers, and more.

McCarty is listed as four-star prospect by the 247Sports and currently checks in as the nation’s 73rd-ranked prospect. He ranks as the 20th-ranked small forward in the class of 2024 and the 12th-ranked player in the state of Florida.

247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein spoke on McCarty saying, “McCarty is a big-bodied scoring wing who bases his attack off his ability to make tough shots. He’s very adept at scoring over top of contesting defenders, both from behind the arc and in the mid-range area. He needs minimal separation to get his shot off because he has very little dip in his release and can also square his body up to the target as he is rising into his release. Physically, he’s long, strong, has solid positional size at 6-foot-5, and is able to create space by going right into contact. McCarty has also shown a willingness to take smaller defenders into the post, where he is a threat to overpower them and score over top of them. The combination of that strength, physicality, and multi-range scoring ability makes him a very tough match-up for opposing defenders.”

Houston tips off their season on Monday, November 6th against ULM.
