Dana Holgorsen on Playing Texas: ‘You’ve Got to Win That One’

While the Houston Cougars are fresh off one of the biggest wins of the season over the West Virginia Mountaineers, Dana Holgorsen knows he’s staring down a massive test in Week 8.
Horgorsen and the Coogs welcome the eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns to town on Saturday, October 21st, and when asked about comments surrounding the game from fans, Holgorsen mentioned an intense desire to take down the Longhorns.
Houston beat writer Joseph Duarte spoke to Holgorsen and asked about the comments he’s heard from fans which prompted Holgorsen to mention, “I’ve got a lot of comments. Just beat Texas. Don’t care if you win any of them but you’ve got to win that one. You can go 1-11 and it’s ok if you beat Texas.”
Taking down the Longhorns will be no easy feat as the Cougars enter Week 8 as 20-point underdogs to Steve Sarkisian’s squad, the largest underdog of any team in the Big 12 this week.
Texas currently boasts an impressive seven-win streak against Houston which dates back to the 1992 season with John Mackovic on the sidelines. If Dana Holgorsen can pull off the upset, he would add his name to the short list of Houston coaches with a win over Texas on their resume including Bill Yeoman, Jack Pardee, and John Jenkins.
Saturday’s matchup between the Longhorns and the Cougars kicks off at 3:00 PM CT on FOX.
