Dana Holgorsen Comments on Awful Spot at End of Texas Game

NCAA Football: Cincinnati at Houston

The Houston Cougars loss against Texas wasn’t without plenty of controversy at the end. The Cougars were heading down the field on their final drive late in the fourth quarter looking to tie the game against a Top 10 team in the country.

However, on a 3rd and 1 from the Texas 10-yard line, Stacy Sneed ran between the tackles on a rush that looked like it was clearly a first down. But the officials marked it short of the first down mark.

Here’s a look at the replay.

Needless to say, that didn’t sit well with Dana Holgorsen or the Houston faithful. And nor should it have. It was an awful call.

After the game, Holgorsen said, “I think the spot was horrible. I think we got the first down… I don’t understand review. Every time I think something’s reviewable, I can’t get them to review it. They say they’re looking at it, but I don’t know that. Somebody’s just confirmed it’s as bad as a I think it is.”

On the 4th and short, Donovan Smith rolled out right and missed a pass that would have moved the chains and kept the drive alive.

Holgorsen added, “4th and 2’s are hard to get. Thought we had the right play call, just didn’t execute the play.”

Houston trialed this game 21-0 before coming back in the second and third quarters, along with a defense that locked down and was much improved as the game progressed. However, Houston fell to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 play with the loss. The Cougars hit the road to take on the Kansas State Wildcats next Saturday in Manhattan.
