TCU Women’s Basketball 2023-24 Basketball Schedule Analysis

The 2023-24 TCU Horned Frogs women’s basketball schedule is complete and here is an analysis of the entire schedule as basketball season nears.

Season Opener

The Horned Frogs debut on Nov. 6 at home against Oral Roberts. It will be the debut of new coach Mark Campbell and a large group of new Horned Frogs, including center Sedona Prince.

Off to St. Pete

The St. Pete Showcase in St. Petersburg, Fla., has been a popular destination for Big 12 teams the past few seasons. TCU will get a chance to showcase itself from Nov. 23-25, and it will be their first road trip of the season, even though it’s not a true road game. The Horned Frogs get UTEP on Nov. 23 and Nebraska on Nov. 25.

Best Non-Con Game

It may end up being that Nebraska game in St. Pete. The Cornhuskers won 18 games last season and represent the only high-major team the Horned Frogs will face in non-conference. The schedule has been tuned with a lot of mid-major teams to give the Horned Frogs a chance to build chemistry and confidence going into Big 12 play.

Mid-Major Danger Game

When you’re a young team with a new coach, each game carries a little danger with it. But the Rice game on Nov. 12 should be one to watch. The Owls won 23 games last season and should give TCU a significant early-season test.

Big 12 Opener

The Horned Frogs will host BYU in its Big 12 opener on Dec. 30. Right off the bat we get Prince squaring off with BYU forward Lauren Gustin, who averaged a double-double last season.

Big 12 Road Opener

TCU fires up the rivalry with the Baylor Bears on Jan. 3. It will be the Horned Frogs’ first visit to the Bears’ new Foster Pavilion.

Brutal Big 12 Stretch

That Baylor game sets off a six-game stretch against teams that were either in the NCAA Tournament (Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas, Iowa State) or the NIT (Kansas State). The only exception is Houston, a program that should be better this season.

What Should Happen?

Campbell has his hands full. He’s inheriting a program that eroded in the final two years under Raegan Pebley. Prince was among the solid recruiting he did in the portal, and he was able to hang onto the two Top 100 recruits that Pebley signed before she left the Horned Frogs. How much better the Horned Frogs can be will be dependent on how they do in non-conference in terms of building chemistry and the health of Prince, a 6-foot-7 forward who can be a game-changer for TCU.
