BYU QB Kedon Slovis Out vs. West Virginia

The BYU Cougars will be without their veteran quarterback Kedon Slovis their Week 10 matchup as Slovis is reportedly dealing with some lingering injuries. Slovis will miss out on a matchup in Morgantown against Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers, an old rival from his days at Pitt.

Slovis has started every game for the Cougars this season but the program will now pivot to backup quarterback Jake Retzlaff for the foreseeable future.

Slovis and the Cougars have had an up-and-down season in 2023 currently sporting a 5-3 overall record and a conference record of 2-3. The Cougars earned comfortable wins over Cincinnati and Texas Tech but also wound up on the losing end of blowouts to Texas and TCU.

The Arizona native has completed 153 passes this season for 1,716 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 12-6. BYU head coach Kalani Stiake now turns to junior quarterback Jake Retzlaff who was one of the top quarterbacks at the JUCO level in 2022. Retzlaff completed 312 passes for 4,596 yards and 44 touchdowns in 2022 at Riverside Community College and added 515 rushing yards and six scores on the ground.

The junior signal caller now takes the field for the first time this season in hopes of taking down the West Virginia Mountaineers in pursuit of bowl eligibility. West Virginia and BYU clash on Saturday, November 4th at 6:00 PM CT in Morgantown, West Virginia.
