Bill Self Says This Part of Hunter Dickinson’s Game Has Improved the Most
The Kansas Jayhawks bounced back following a loss to No. 4 Marquette with a win over No. 7 Tennessee on Wednesday afternoon in the Maui Invitational.
The game was tied at halftime, but it was the second half when KU took control on their way to a 69-60 victory. Hunter Dickinson finished with 17 points and 20 rebounds, earning high praise from head coach Bill Self following the game.
Self said in the post-game press conference, “That’s two games [Marquette and Tennessee] that we’ve played against two really good teams where a guy’s gotten 20 and 21 rebounds. And if you were going to evaluate Hunter from Michigan, I would say that’s one of the biggest areas he needed to improve in, not only rebounding the ball inside his area but outside his area. So he’s gotten better.”
Through six games this season, Dickinson is averaging 22.0 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game, while shooting over 68% from the field. The 7’2” transfer from Michigan joined the Jayhawks this offseason after he averaged 18.5 points, nine rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game for the Wolverines, but UM managed just a fifth-place finish in the Big Ten with an 18-16 overall record.
KU heads home after its third-place finish in Maui and will have a few days off before taking on Eastern Illinois on Tuesday and then a big match up against No. 5 UConn next Friday night in Lawrence.
