Dana Holgorsen Comments on His Future as Houston Coach
While the season finished for Dana Holgorsen’s Houston Cougars on Saturday afternoon with a 27-13 loss against the UCF Knights, discussions on his future are just getting started.
Holgorsen addressed his future in Houston following the Cougars’ Week 13 loss saying, “I’ve got a four-year contract. Contracts mean something.”
Holgorsen continued by saying, “If they don’t want me to be the football coach, they have not expressed that to me. I want to be the football coach here.”
While Dana Holgorsen may want to coach football in Houston, the decision to keep him around will likely not be so easy. Houston has regressed over the past three seasons and continues to head in the wrong direction since winning a league championship in 2021. The team went 4-8 in Holgorsen’s first year then followed suit with a 3-5 season the year after. With a 12-2 record in 2021, Houston claimed an AAC title but since then has gone 8-5, and 4-8. Since accepting the job in 2019, Holgorsen is 31-28 overall and is 12-13 since winning the AAC.
Holgorsen followed up his original statement by saying, “With that said, I’ve got to evaluate everything. I mean everything. Every coach, every player, every scheme. There’s a lot of things that need to be evaluated.”
The Cougars and Holgorsen will each have time to do some evaluating of their own as the offseason officially sets in for the Houston Cougars football team.
