AP Top 25 Men: Six Big 12 Teams Land in Latest Poll

Six Big 12 teams were among the nation’s best as the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25 was released after the season’s third week of games.

The Big 12 ranked teams included:

Kansas at No. 5 (No. 1 last week);


Houston at No. 6 (No. 6 last week);

Baylor at No. 9 (No. 15 last week);

Texas at No. 16 (No. 19 last week);

BYU at No. 19 (received 138 votes last week);

Oklahoma at No. 25 (received 10 votes last week).

Four other Big 12 teams received votes, meaning that 10 of the league’s 14 teams received at least one vote this week.

Houston (7-0) played just one game last week due to the holiday, beating Montana, 79-44. The Cougars have just one game this coming week, but it’s their Big 12-Big EAST Battle against Xavier.

Kansas (5-1) was at the Maui Classic, where they beat Chaminade, 83-56, lost to No. 4 Marquette, 73-59, and beat No. 7 Tennessee, 69-60. Kansas is now 2-1 against ranked teams this season. The Jayhawks host Eastern Illinois on Tuesday and defending national champion UConn on Friday.  

Baylor (6-0) won both of its games at the NIT Season Tip-Off in Brooklyn, NY. The Bears defeated Oregon State, 88-72, and Florida, 95-91. The Bears are back home and host Nicholls on Tuesday and Northwestern State on Saturday.


Texas (5-1) lost to UConn, 81-71, in the Saatva Empire Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Monday. The Longhorns ended the week by beating Wyoming, 86-63.

BYU (6-0) won both of its games at the Vegas Showdown in Las Vegas last week, beating Arizona State, 77-49, and NC State, 95-86. The Cougars are off until Friday when they host Fresno State. The Cougars are ranked as a Big 12 member for the first time.

Oklahoma (6-0) is coming off two wins at the Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego. Both wins were over Power 6 teams and one was ranked USC, which beat Kansas State earlier this season. The Sooners have one game this week, at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday.
