With transfer portal season officially upon us, college football fans are beginning to witness big names from their favorite teams announce their decision to enter the portal.
And in Manhattan, Kansas State quarterback Will Howard is entering the transfer portal as a grad transfer with one season of eligibility remaining.
Howard became the biggest name to hit the portal on Monday after an outstanding senior season with the Wildcats. After winning a Big 12 title in 2022, Howard will now finish his career elsewhere with one final year of eligibility.
Howard was one of the top passers in the Big 12 Conference in 2023 totaling 2,643 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 24-10. The Pennsylvania native also added 80 carries for 364 yards and nine scores on the ground. Howard became the fourth Wildcat to hit the transfer portal on Monday joining sophomore quarterback Jake Rubely, senior running back Treshaun Ward, and sophomore wide receiver Shane Porter.
Kansas State will now likely turn the keys over to freshman Avery Johnson for the foreseeable future. While rumblings of Howard possibly transferring emerged on Monday morning, the loss for the Wildcats still comes as a bit of a surprise. Chris Klieman will have his hands full with a brand new team in 2024.
