Big 12 Championship Game Sets New Attendance Record with 84,523 Fans
While the 2023 Big 12 Championship Game may not have been the most exciting in terms of the on-the-field product, fans of both teams showed up in full support breaking the previous record for most fans in attendance with 84,523.
The previous record was set back in 2018, with 83,114 fans showing up to witness Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners take down No. 14 Texas, 39-27.
Steve Sarkisian’s group made a major statement against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship as the team set its sights on both the Big 12 title and a potential college football playoff bid.
The Longhorns are currently slotted at the No. 7 spot in the CFP rankings trailing Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State, Washington, Michigan, and Georgia. With the win over Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game, the Longhorns finished their season off with four top-25 wins.
Texas’ signature win came back in Week 2 on the road in Tuscaloosa taking down Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide, 34-24. The Longhorns then took down No. 24 Kansas in Week 5 in blowout fashion 40-14 before finding an overtime win over the 23rd-ranked Kansas State Wildcats.
While the win over Oklahoma State may or may not be enough to help the Longhorns earn a bid to the college football playoff, Texas’ historic season will go down in the history books in the mind of Longhorns fans forever.
