The game is set for Tuesday, December 26th at 8:00 p.m. central. The game will be at Chase Field.
Kansas is coming off an 8-4 season under Lance Leipold which earned the Jayhawks the most wins since the 2009 season. Kansas started off hot in 2023 with a 4-0 record through their first four games. The Jayhawks recorded wins against BYU, UCF, No. 12 Oklahoma, Iowa State, and Cincinnati en route to a trip to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.
Meantime, UNLV is fresh off of a third-place finish in the Mountain West with an overall record of 9-4. The Rebels took down Vanderbilt, UTEP, Hawaii, Nevada, Colorado State, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Air Force en route to their date with Kansas. The trip to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl game marks the Rebels’ first trip to an official bowl game since the 2014 season.
Kansas has played in 13 bowl games and has a 6-7 record in those games. Kansas has now earned back-to-back bowl game appearances for the first time since the 2007 and 2008 seasons under Mark Mangiano. Last year, the Jayhawks narrowly lost to Arkansas in triple overtime in the Liberty Bowl, 55-53.
The two teams have only played each other twice in program history with each team owning a win. UNLV took down Kansas 31-20 in 2002 before the Jayhawks got revenge in 2003 with a 46-24 win. This year’s bowl game will give the winning program a leg up on the all-time series.
