The Big 12 leading passer for 2023 has entered the transfer portal as Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel has entered the transfer portal, making his announcement on social media on Monday morning.
Gabriel was a two-year starter for the Sooners and amassed 6,828 passing yards and 73 total touchdowns during his time in Norman. In 2023, Gabriel had the most productive season of his career with 4,033 total yards and 42 touchdowns (30 passing, 12 rushing).
After being one of the best quarterbacks in the nation this season, Gabriel is immediately the top quarterback target in the portal.
After offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby left Oklahoma to take the head coaching job at Mississippi State, it was assumed that Gabriel might enter the portal to follow the coordinator that he followed from UCF.
Gabriel has thrown for 14,895 yards in his career, which is the eighth most in FBS history. With 4,353 yards passing in 2024, Gabriel would pass Case Keenum for No. 1 all-time on that list.
With their starter headed out the door, the Sooners will now turn to Jackson Arnold, the five-star freshman out of Denton Guyer High School in Denton, Texas.
Oklahoma is set to face No. 14 Arizona in the 2023 Valero Alamo Bowl, and without their starting quarterback, it might be a tougher matchup than the Sooners’ had anticipated.
