Oklahoma S Key Lawrence to Enter Transfer Portal

With transfer portal season officially upon us, college football fans are beginning to witness big names from their favorite teams announce their decision to enter the portal.

According to a report from 247Sports’ Matt ZenitzOklahoma senior safety, Key Lawrence will be entering the transfer portal after spending three seasons in Norman.

Lawrence was a massive part of Brent Venables’s defense in the 2023 season seeing action as a key contributor in each of the Sooners games. Lawrence finished his senior season off with 44 total tackles, one forced fumble, two interceptions, and three pass breakups.

Coming out of high school, the 6-foot-1, 206-pound safety was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index in the Class of 2020, as well as the nation’s 84th-ranked player. He also checked in as the fifth-ranked player at his position and the top-ranked player in the state of Tennessee.

The Tennessee native originally committed to his hometown school in Tennessee out of high school but after playing limited snaps in the 2020 season, Lawrence elected to transfer to Oklahoma to join the Sooners.

Oklahoma will now have a new spot to fill ahead of the 2024 season. Still, with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college football history, Brent Venables should have some options available for replacement.
