While the Oklahoma Sooners eagerly await for multiple players to announce their future decisions about potential returns to Norman, Brent Venables’ squad received some good news on Friday morning with the announcement of junior safety Billy Bowman returning for the 2024 season.
Bowman earned 247Sports’ First-Team All-American honors in 2023 after leading his team with six interceptions, which ranked first in the Big 12 Conference.
With Bowman returning for his senior season with the Sooners, he will now have the opportunity to play for Brent Venables in a new conference following the team’s move to the SEC on July 1st.
Bowman showed up in big ways on the field in his junior season, taking three out of six interceptions back for touchdowns. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound safety found the end zone against Iowa State, TCU, and most notably, a 100-yard pick-six against BYU in Week 11 to give the Sooners the lead in a dog fight with the Cougars.
The Texas native has spent three seasons with the Sooners recording 142 total tackles, 10 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and nine interceptions in his career.
While getting Bowman back for his senior season provides a massive boost for Brent Venables‘ defense, the Sooners will face a tough task to finish off the season in the 2023 Valero Alamo Bowl against No. 14 Arizona. The matchup between Oklahoma and Arizona kicks off on Thursday, December 28th, at 8:15 PM CT.
