Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners have had some early success in the 2023 transfer portal, and on Sunday morning, the team got some more good news with the addition of San Diego State transfer Dezjohn Malone.
Malone was a key player for SDSU last season as the junior defensive back recorded 46 total tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, and seven pass breakups for the Aztecs.
In his two seasons at San Diego State, Malone recorded a total of 89 tackles, 12 pass breakups, one sack, one forced fumble, and four interceptions. Oklahoma has been active in the transfer portal this offseason as Malone became the second player to commit to OU alongside Michigan State transfer OT Spencer Brown.
Coming out of high school, Malone was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and checked in as the nation’s 1957th-ranked prospect. He was also listed as the 177th-ranked player at his position and the 170th-ranked player in the state of California.
Malone now heads to Oklahoma with two seasons of eligibility remaining following two seasons in San Diego. While the Sooners still have a chunk of departures left to address this offseason, the addition of Dezjhon Malone will go a long way.
