Look: Kansas Begins Work on David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium
While some teams in the Big 12 Conference have their hands full with managing players in the transfer portal, the Kansas Jayhawks have a little bit extra to deal with as construction officially started on Kansas’ new stadium.
The Jayhawks social media team released videos on Monday afternoon showing a demolition crew tearing down seats at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium signaling the start of Kansas’ new home for football.
Kansas has reportedly raised $125 million for its renovation of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in the last 10 months, according to Chad Lawhorn of KUSports.com. University leaders then mentioned that they fully expect to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony in 2025.
While changes to athletics departments and facilities at Power Five universities can bring out equal parts of nostalgia and excitement, Jayhawks fans were greeted with an incredible quote about the future of the stadium from Chancellor Douglas Girod.
“When I describe it, I think of an outdoor Allen Fieldhouse,” Girod said. “That’s what we are shooting for. To create that type of energy for a player in the middle of a game, talk about a home-field advantage.”
While the stadium’s construction isn’t expected to be completed until 2025, Kansas fans everywhere added some extra excitement to their day with the video update from the athletic department.
