Six Big 12 Teams In Men’s Basketball AP Poll

Six Big 12 teams were among the nation’s best as the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25 was released after the season’s fifth week of games.

The Big 12 ranked teams included:

Kansas at No. 2 (No. 2 last week);

Houston at No. 4 (No. 3 last week);

Baylor at No. 6 (No. 6 last week);

Oklahoma at No. 11 (No. 19 last week).

BYU at No. 18 (No. 14 last week);

Texas at No. 19 (No. 12 last week);

Three other Big 12 teams received votes, meaning that nine of the league’s 14 teams received at least one vote this week.

Houston (10-0) won two games last week, defeating Rice, 75-39, and Jackson State, 89-55. The Cougars are off until Saturday when they face Texas A&M in Houston at the Toyota Center.

Kansas (9-1) also won two games last week, beating Kansas City, 88-69, and Missouri, 73-64, in a renewal of their long-standing rivalry. Kansas is off until Saturday when it travels to Indiana to face the Hoosiers at Assembly Hall.

Baylor (9-0) played just one game last week, defeating Seton Hall, 78-60. Baylor won’t play again until Saturday when it faces Michigan State in Detroit.

Texas (7-2) went 1-1 last week, losing to Marquette, 88-65, and then beating Houston Christian, 77-50. Texas is off until Saturday when it faces LSU in Houston at the Toyota Center, part of a doubleheader with Houston and Texas A&M.

BYU (8-1) beat Evansville, 96-55, early last week before its lost its first game of the season, falling to Utah, 73-69. The Cougars will play two games this week, as they host Denver and Georgia State.

Oklahoma (9-0) kept rolling last week, as it beat Providence at home, 72-51, and then Arkansas, 79-70, in a neutral site game in Oklahoma City. The Sooners host Green Bay on Saturday.
