Week 5 Big 12 Basketball Players of the Week Announced
With Week 5 of the college basketball season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced two players that would be taking home the fifth iteration of the Big 12 Basketball Weekly Awards for the 2023-24 season.
Kansas State‘s Arthur Kaluma took home the title for Big 12 Player of the Week while Iowa State‘s Keshon Gilbert claimed Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors.
Kansas State wing Arthur Kaluma earned the title of Big 12 Player of the Week after back-to-back impressive performances against No. 18 Villanova and LSU. Kauma and the Wildcats played in and won their third straight overtime game against Villanova where the junior native fell one point shy of his career-high with 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field. Kaluma went 3-of-3 from long range and also added nine rebounds and four assists in 44 minutes of action. He followed up the impressive win against Nova with 17 points and 11 rebounds against the LSU Tigers in the team’s 75-60 win.
Iowa State guard Keyon Gilbert had an outstanding week of basketball earning his third-straight game of 20 or more points with wins over Iowa and Prairie View A&M. Gilbert became the first Cyclone with three straight 20-point outings to accomplish the feat since Izaiah Brockington in February of 2022, according to the official release. While individual stats are one aspect of the game, Gilbert is helping out his team in multiple areas as the Cyclones are now 4-0 in games when Gilbert crosses the 20-point threshold.
