Dave Aranda added a new coach to the coaching staff at Baylor on Tuesday afternoon with former Michigan State offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic.

Kapilovic steps in to run the offensive line under new offensive coordinator Jake Spavital, as the Bears continue to revamp their coaching staff under Dave Aranda.

After Baylor lost their previous OL coach Eric Mateos in December after being hired by Arkansas to join Sam Pittman’s staff, the Bears conducted a quick search to find suitable replacements. According to a report on Tuesday from 365Sports’ Colt Barber, the Bears found their guy in Chris Kapilovic.

Kapilovic has spent 22 years coaching football after his playing career came to an end in 1990 as a member of the Missouri State Bears. The native of Ohio then accepted his first job as the offensive line coach at Alabama State where he remained for five seasons before spending one year back at his alma mater, Missouri State.

Kapilovic then elected to spend four seasons at Southern Miss from 2008-2011 before accepting a job as the OL coach at North Carolina. From 2012-2018 Kapilovic operated in multiple roles on the team including OL coach, running game coordinator, co-offensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, and associate head coach.

After his seven-year career with the Tar Heels came to an end in 2018, Kapilovic hit the trail to Boulder for one season with the Colorado Buffaloes. Kapilovic was then pursued by Michigan State for the title of offensive line coach, running game coordinator, and associate head coach. Kapolivic spent four seasons in East Lansing before Dave Aranda made the call to bring him onto the staff at Baylor.

Kapilovic and Baylor will have a long offseason to work on schemes, recruiting, and completely overhauling things on the offensive line, but at least one good thing for Baylor fans to focus on is the fact that they did not have to wait long to find out who will be running the O-line in 2024.
