Texas Tech Lands Coveted Transfer OL Davion Carter

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at Kansas

Texas Tech landed one of the most sought-after pieces in the 2024 transfer portal cycle on Thursday as Memphis offensive lineman Davion Carter announced his commitment to the Red Raiders.

Carter started at right guard this season and started 11 games for Memphis in 2022 before that, helping the Tigers’ offense to an average of 39.7 points per game, ranking second in the AAC in scoring offense and seventh nationally.

At 6-foot-3, 290 pounds, Carter brings experience and success to an offensive line that is losing some key pieces from the 2023 unit. This is no small get for Joey McGuire and company either, as Carter ranks as the No. 25 overall player in the transfer portal, and the No. 4 offensive lineman available, according to Rivals.

Carter was in Lubbock for an official visit last weekend and held offers from Boston College and Michigan State after entering the portal on December 4.

Now, 10 days later, he’s set to become a part of the Red Raiders offensive line rotation in 2024, a unit that will be very important to the success of one of the nation’s top returning running backs, Tahj Brooks.
