Alan Bowman Seeking Another Year of Eligibility via NCAA Waiver
Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman has been exactly what the Pokes needed this season — an experienced game manager who can get the ball to All-American running back Ollie Gordon.
His numbers don’t jump off the page, having 13 touchdowns with 12 interceptions and completing 59.7% of his passes for 3,058 yards. However, there’s no denying that his addition to the Pokes’ offense has been pivotal to their success this season.
Behind Bowman, there’s virtually no experience at the quarterback position, although Zane Flores does provide an intriguing level of talent once he gets his feet wet.
Still, it would be a major boost for Bowman to come back for another year, although that will require a waiver from the NCAA. Well, as it turns out, Bowman says he has applied for an injury waiver, which would allow him to come back for the 2024 season if it were allowed by the NCAA.
“There’s a waiver that you have to submit to the NCAA to extend your five-year clock, to get into the technical [aspect] of it…,” Bowman told media. “We’re in the process of submitting that. So, before any decisions of coming back or not coming back, we have to see if that waiver gets accepted because there’s no point to say, ‘Oh, I want to come back,’ and then it’s like, ‘Well, you can’t play.’ So we’re kind of waiting on that. We’re in the process of that.”
Getting Bowman back would give the Pokes an experienced leader in a room set to return Garrett Rangel and Zane Flores, who are expected to compete for the starting job in ’24 as of now. It could take a bit to hear back from the NCAA, but if he were to be cleared to return, it would be a big boost for the team.
Oklahoma State is preparing to take on Texas A&M in the TaxAct Texas Bowl on Wednesday, December 27, at 8:00 p.m. CT at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
