TCU Lands San Diego State Transfer LB Cooper McDonald
While the transfer portal provides the opportunity for teams to lose key players through outgoing departures, it also has the ability to help a team bring in key players each offseason.
Sonny Dykes and the TCU Horned Frogs recently added a new name to their squad ahead of the 2024 season with the commitment of former SDSU Aztec linebacker Cooper McDonald.
McDonald was an important player for the Aztecs’ defense in 2023 recording 41 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two pass breakups. McDonald started his career at Washington and recorded 27 tackles, one sack, and one pass break up with the Huskies. In four years of college football, McDonald recorded 109 tackles, five pass breakups, and 4.5 sacks throughout his career.
Coming out of high school, McDonald was graded as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and checked in as the nation’s 1126th-ranked prospect. He was also listed as the 39th-ranked linebacker in his class and the 139th-ranked player in the state of Texas.
McDonald became the Horned Frogs’ sixth addition through the transfer portal this offseason, but with the portal already featuring a record number of players, Sonny Dykes’ squad will likely have some more names to chase in the near future.
