Texas Tech Lands Washington State Transfer WR Josh Kelly
While the transfer portal provides the opportunity for teams to lose key players through outgoing departures, it also has the ability to help a team bring in key players each offseason.
According to a Friday report from On3’s Matt Zenitz, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders recently added a new name to their squad ahead of the 2024 season with the commitment of former Washington State wide receiver Josh Kelly.
Kelly was a big piece of the Cougars’ passing attack in 2023 bringing in 61 grabs for 923 yards and eight touchdowns in his junior season. The California native is a massive addition to Texas Tech as his 15.1 yards per catch should be a great pairing with the team’s young quarterback, Behren Morton.
Coming out of high school, Kelly was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and checked in as the nation’s 2153rd-ranked prospect. He was also listed as the 255th-ranked receiver in his class and the 219th-ranked player in the state of California.
Kelly became the Red Raiders’ eighth addition through the transfer portal this offseason, but with the portal already featuring a record number of players, Joey McGuire’s squad will likely have some more names to chase in the near future.
